DECEMBER IS OUT: Powder marks its 35th anniversary with the world's most influential skiers
It’s not very often that a magazine like this comes along. With the December issue, Powder celebrates its 35th anniversary. The milestone is marked by the magazine’s fattest page count in 12 years, and its first-ever gatefold cover photo.
Presenting Sarah Burke, Glen Plake, Tanner Hall, Seth Morrison, Wayne Wong, Scot Schmidt, J.P. Auclair, Mike Douglas, and Wendy Fisher—all of whom were flown to Los Angeles for a group photo shoot in September—the David Reddick cover shot leads into a feature on the 48 most influential skiers in Powder’s 35 years. Editor Tom Bie profiles the best of the best—from Bill Briggs and Bill Johnson to Kent Kreitler and Candide Thovex, and all those in between.
Along with the evolution of athleticism, so too has the magazine chronicled the changes in ski town life. All around our mountains, ski resorts have become the next boom in the socio-economic cycle. In this issue, you’ll read about how Mount Baker, Washington, has managed to thrive while avoiding real estate development. Then learn what you can do when big builders knock on your door, and where else you can go to find Little Areas that Rock.
Powder also looks into the future with another installment of its Voice department, where Andreas Hatveit explains how he’s managed to ascend to the world’s biggest freestyle stage after growing up in a small Norwegian town. Plus, Joaquin the Cop Car makes his way from Sun Valley to Seattle, helping Captain Powder reunite with an old friend.
So don’t miss out on December. It’s sure to be a collector’s item.
